Our Standards
At Sardis Animal Hospital, we hold ourselves to high standards. We are committed to providing meticulously clean, safe, and secure facilities for your pet. But you don’t have to take our word for it.
To ensure we remain at the forefront of advanced veterinary medicine, we have been accredited by the AAHA. As the only organization that accredits veterinary practices in the United States and Canada, the American Animal Hospital Association sets the standard for quality veterinary care. After being evaluated on more than 900 different factors, we were deemed to be on the cutting edge of veterinary excellence. Those standards include maintaining exemplary facilities.
When you bring your pet to Sardis Animal Hospital, you can rest easy knowing that they are receiving care at a hospital that has passed the high standards of AAHA veterinary care. To learn more about what our AAHA accreditation means for you and your pet.
Records
Medical records are vital for continuity in health care. Each pet has its own file consisting of medical and surgical history, doctors’ notes, laboratory test results, drugs dispensed, and more. In addition, we have been keeping digital medical records for nearly 30 years, ensuring that your pets’ medical history is safe in the event of an emergency.
Outpatient & Over-the-Counter
Our knowledgeable staff are trained to provide and advise over-the-counter services for all your pets’ outpatient needs. We carry a comprehensive selection of products for parasite control, as well as a full line of prescription diets and nutritional aids. We can also provide nutritional and behavioural counselling, help with your international travel plans, or help book an appointment with the doctor.
Laboratory Services
Our complete, on-site laboratory can perform most blood chemistries, electrolytes, hematology, urinalysis, bacteriology, and heartworm and other parasite testing. It allows us to provide rapid diagnostics for emergencies at any time of the day or night. For special diagnostic tests, we courier samples twice daily.
Surgery
We maintain a dedicated and purpose-built surgical suite, including state-of-the-art anesthesia and monitoring devices. In addition, the suite is maintained to rigorous AAHA standards, similar to what you would find in a human operating room. For more information about our surgical suite and procedures, see the Surgery page.
Oral and Dental Health
Our pets need oral and dental care too. Digital dental x-ray, high-speed drills and modern oral surgical tools allow us to provide the dental care necessary. Dentistry is a basic part of our wellness program. We have invested heavily in the tools, equipment and continuing education to provide for all of your pet’s dental needs, from cleanings to extractions, homecare to referral for a root canal. For more information, see the Dental page.
Imaging
Our hospital maintains a digital radiograph (X-ray) machine and ultrasound machine. This diagnostic equipment allows us the high quality and almost immediate results often only available at specialty practices. The digital imaging integrates with our records system and allows a quick and seamless transfer of images to referral specialists or online consultants when needed.
Isolation
Some diseases are highly contagious from pet to pet or even from pet to people—the so-called zoonotic diseases. Therefore, we maintain an isolated kennel room in our hospital for animals with infectious, contagious or zoonotic diseases for the safety of all in the hospital. The Isolation room has full kennel facilities, separate ventilation and waste disposal, entry to the hospital and dedicated tools.
Education
Veterinary medicine, like many professions, is evolving at a rapid pace. Our commitment to ourselves, our patients and our clients is to do our utmost to stay abreast with the ever-expanding veterinary knowledge base. In addition to continuing education seminars, in-house lunch and learns and online courses, we maintain an up-to-date and extensive on-site library and subscribe to online consultant boards.
Grounds
We maintain a large, landscaped backyard to exercise our patients. The yard is completely fenced and gated with locks. This area allows us to observe your pet’s behaviour with other dogs and perform tests we could not do indoors. Our patients are never left unattended, so you can have peace of mind knowing that if a collar or leash fails, your pet is safely contained and away from traffic.
